Some topics are very touchy with family. In order to prevent having an argument with your loved ones, here’s a few topics to avoid bringing up around the Thanksgiving table.
Politics
If you’re a democrat and have republicans in your family, now probably isn’t a good time to mention the election. The same goes for if you’re a republican who isn’t happy that there’s a democratic President in office. Politics are something that should be avoided in general, but around the Thanksgiving table it can lead to a big argument.
Relationship Issues
Just don’t go there. If it comes up, quickly change the subject because it can go downhill fast. Problems you may have with someone don’t need to be broadcast to everyone at dinner. Save that for another time.
Money
Whether it’s how much or how little of it you have, don’t bring it up. While everyone is eating their meal, they don’t want to hear about it.
Sex
This is a topic that just shouldn’t come up. If you’re having dinner with strangers and people who don’t really know you well, they’ll get a bad impression of you. It’s inappropriate to discuss your sex life or that of others.
Religion
It’s never okay to attack someone about their religion. On Thanksgiving it’s even more of an issue. If you’re having dinner with people of different religions, just don’t bring it up. Picking a religion is an individual decision. It shouldn’t be criticized by others.
Remember that Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for what you have, and who is in your life. Having arguments about differences you may have with family and friends shouldn’t go on at the table.
